Religious Pioneers; Building the Faith in the Archdiocese of New Orleans is an anthology of the lives of religious women and men connected with the history of the Catholic Church in New Orleans. Their stories, their adventures are chronicled here by their followers with admiration and honesty. The Ursulines came first, in 1727, and extended warm hospitality to all the sisters who followed them. Amazing links are discovered: two were on the packet boat Pennsylvania when it exploded on the Mississippi in 1858, killing almost two hundred. Father Delcros died; Mother Caroline lived. Yellow fever, civil war, upheaval in the church and society: all were survivors, and their energy is ours if we claim it. Thirty-one stories that will enlighten, entertain, and inspire the reader!
